Volunteer

Join Us Behind the Scenes!

Central to Stage 62’s success through the years are the many volunteers who help make it all happen! From the stage to the production center, you’ll find our volunteers everywhere – actors, singers, and dancers; stage crew and ushers; carpenters, painters, and designers – all giving their time and talent to bring theatre to life. With four major productions each season, there’s a place for everyone, whatever your talents, skills, or experience level. Come be part of making the theatre experience come to life for your community!

How You Can Help

  • Performers

Anyone who ever wanted to act, sing, or dance from the novice to the most seasoned actor, is welcome to audition for our productions. Watch our website and social media for upcoming audition information and to learn more about how to prepare for an audition and what to expect.

  • Set Construction & Painting

Volunteers help design, build, install, paint, and tear down sets. While it is helpful for volunteers in this area to have some comfort using power tools or a paintbrush, we’re happy to provide on-the-job training!

  • Lighting

Training will be provided. We need people who are available throughout the run of a show. Some jobs can be shared with another person, and some require that you are there for every performance and throughout tech week prior to the show opening. This is a job that requires a strong commitment, and the ability to follow a script.

  • Props

Properties (or props) are all of the set dressings and small articles used in a production. Volunteers can either help gather props for a production or work backstage for the performance.

  • Costumes

Volunteers are instrumental in designing or sourcing costume pieces, sewing costumes, and putting on the finishing touches. Time requirements vary with each show, but hours are flexible with your schedule.

  • Stage Crew

Each show requires many people working backstage to make everything happen on stage. From preparing the set and setting the props, coordinating special effects, and moving set pieces, there's a lot happening backstage! Stage Managers must be prepared to attend most rehearsals and all performances and get the opportunity to work closely with the director. For the Run Crew, time commitment is the full run of the show plus tech week; volunteers can work every night of a production or if necessary, trade shifts with another volunteer. This requires a highly responsible person.

  • Ushers & Fundraising

This is a great way to get started volunteering and meet a lot of people. Ushers are the friendly and helpful folk who greet the public, take tickets, help patrons find their seats, and hand out programs; some will also work the parking lot to help ensure our patrons can find parking spaces! Arrival time is one hour before the performance.

  • Concessions

Work in our concession stand selling candy and drinks. Proceeds from these items help to support our production costs. Arrival time is 45 minutes before the performance.
