Peter and the Starcatcher

Based on the best-selling novels, this Tony-award-winning play (with music) is a rollicking, tuneful prequel to the beloved Peter Pan story. Starcatcher-in-training Molly and a nameless orphan boy embark on an epic sea quest, cross swords with a motley pirate crew led by the fearfully funny Black Stache, and take us on a rollicking, transformative adventure to discover their destinies in the Neverland you never knew. Patrons with families take note: STARCATCHER is one of those rare Broadway shows that captures the Disney genius of being both hilarious for adults as well as a delight for children (Stage 62 suggests 8 years old and up).

Book by Rick Elice
With music by Wayne Barker. Based on the Novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. Presented through special arrangement with Music theatre International (MTI).

While PETER is filled with a multitude of side-splittingly-funny moments (including the sort of groaning puns and flatulence jokes that schoolboys have always found irresistible), its real magic lies in taking the audience on a journey, with the help of some highly skilled guides, to accept the extraordinary. As the glowing New York Times review put it: "Throughout the production, the cast is sounding chords within us that we don't even know are there: our hunger for certain kinds of fables and types of heroes and villains, and our wonder that a flying orphan invented more than a century ago continues to loom so large in our imaginations."
Because of the show's extraordinary demands for creativity in direction and design, Stage 62 has tapped an exciting guest artistic team helmed by director Spencer Whale, currently in residence at City Theatre. Whale is joined by the Manhattan-based team of Nathan Mattingly and Ellen Pyne for scenic design, with costumes by Pyne, who is the bead and crystal designer for Broadway's most prestigious costume shop, making everyone from Chita Rivera to the Genie in ALADDIN sparkle. The cast includes some of the finest talent in the area, including a mix of musical theater majors from Pittsburgh universities as well as seasoned veterans of the local stage and comedy scenes.
